MJ Committee Minutes 29th June 2015

Minutes of Malvern Joggers Committee Meeting Monday 29th June   Present: Carl Flint, Lynda Broadway, Julie Caseley, Denis Holly, Steve Roode, Charly Lowndes,  Annie Robson Apologies: Jerry Greer,  Peter Cowling   Matters arising from 15th March: MJ10K Race discussed below at item 9. Afternote: not discussed: “CF put forward suggestion made by a member for a games/fun night to be held for families one Wednesday. To include activities such as sack race, obstacle course etc. To include Junior joggers and children of members. LB agreed happy to be involved but would need to be assisted by other members to organise. Suggested date was 9th September.”  
  1. Handicap Race Wed 22 July.
Course design: Steve. Results: Charly and Annie. Numbers: Carl to order. We are now affiliated to Herefordshire Cross-Country, and Worcestershire AA (thanks to Julie). This means that MJ teams can (and do) win prizes in County events in Worcs. Individuals born or resident can enter in their county events in their own right. Members to be asked if there is any demand for affiliation for the club to Herefordshire or Gloucestershire AA.
  1. Dogs on jogs.
Carl to restate that dogs should not be included in club runs, for the safety of all concerned. There have been accidents both while running, and in car parks.
  1. BBQ at the Red Lion, Wed  29th July
Members to be asked to indicate numbers. Free to paid-up members, and £5 for guests. Steve will be head Chef.
  1. Christmas Party
Lynda to canvas members on two options: in Worcester, with Uni bar prices and a coach, or in a Malvern hotel.
  1. Joggers on Tour and other club Events
    1. Race the Train - Towyn - Sat 15th Aug
Camping is £5 per person per night. There is an afterparty in fancy dress, and a Hash on Sunday 16th.
  1. Pacman Hash – London – Fri 7 Aug
Cheap train to London via Birmingham International. An evening evading ghosts in London.
  1. Pubathon – Monday 31st August . Steve Roode organising
  2. Thunder 24 – Sat 25th and Sun 26th Team members needed
  3. Joust – Sat 5th and Sun 6th Lynda coordinating team entry
   
  1. Gentle Jogging & beginner runners
There is a need to maintain the walk-run group at a gentle pace. Progression is by moving to the next group. Carl will discuss with Emily and Graham a clearer description in terms of pace/mile to avoid confusion of aims of each group. Charly and Annie available from time to time to help as leaders with slower groups if needed. Induction for new runners should be revived and publicised: we will aim to do this in September and produce fliers for gyms, Library and other outlets.  
  1. Glos Cross Country on the Common – Sat 31st October
Jon Pickering is our link with the MHC: paperwork in hand. Julie and Stuart Brown managing marshals and course signage; Stuart talking to Malvern College about loos and changing. Marshals needed: incentives to include tea (Charly) and cakes (Annie)
  1. MJ 10K
Much positive feedback from runners. Problem: it was too popular and the late surge in entries was hard to manage. For 2016 we will:
  • Keep the price low
  • Take advance bookings only (online and post) opening in February
  • No curry – doughnuts or similar
  • Lynda will approach the Friday Beer company and Morisons for sponsoring goodies
  • A Race Director will oversee the event and check that emergency contact lists are provided for all marshals
  • Remind MJ members to sign up early
  1. Blog & Website
Now working well. Charly will alert members by email when items of interest appear in the blog. Denis will include Charly and Annie when he sends updated membership lists to Julie.  
  1. Committee posts
Lynda will step down as Social Sec but is willing to help her successor get going. All other positions are open for election at the AGM and we will propose an additional post of Vice Chairman. Next meeting: Mon 7th Sept, at Annie’s new home in the Link.
